This post reflects a personal mission. Not to rid the world of LOL but to begin its reduction. Why would I want to get rid of something that has become so commonly used you might ask? Well, because it has found its place into emails, instant messages, text messages and all sorts of other text based communication but at the end of the day...nobody ACTUALLY laughs out loud.

When was the last time somebody sent you a little joke in a text message and you replied with LOL and then proceeded to burst out into brief, audible chuckle? I can almost guarantee this has NEVER happened to you. I know it has happened to me maybe 5 times in all the years I've been using LOL. (Since '96 maybe when I first started using AIM).

LOL has its place for those rare occasions where you are truly tickled and let out a guffaw but for the majority of us and in the majority of situations we don't really mean "laugh out loud" but instead, we mean "that's funny", "that's cute", "I find that amusing", what have you.

Instead of LOL I'm appealing to your sense of logic and asking that you switch (as I am) to using LTM instead of LOL. LTM stands for "laughing to myself". You'll have to explain it a few times but I already have a few of my nearest and dearest using it consistently and we ALL think it just makes more sense. A trend setter I am not but its never too late to start! LTM in '08 Yeah!

PS: Don't even get me started on ROTFLMAO !

In Honor of the Upcoming Elections I Give You "Confusion"

So with the impending elections I was thinking about a song that I hadn't heard for in while. I remember liking Land of Confusion when it first came out. Although I didn't really get the lyrics at the time the visuals entertained me. I look back at it now and see what what I was meant to see. The satire!

The video was shot using puppets made by a British comedy show called Spitting Image. Phil Collins saw a puppet of himself on the show and commissioned the creators of the show to make puppets of all the bank members of Genesis to do this video and two others. So if Phil can make fun of himself then who are we to say he can't make a goof on Reagan? Now, Disturbed is one of my favorite bands. Great themes, great stage presence, and awesome energy make them a must see for me. When a powercharged band like that pays homage to a song like Land of Confusion you get ...

The video here is just awesome! Maybe a bit pretentious but still awesome none-the-less.

Ok so I love Jeff Dunham. He is one of the funniest comedians out there, due in large part to his talent and lovable characters. I just came across this clip of Peanut having an issue and Jeff having to do a bit of improv to cover. This just proves that nothing, NOTHING, is funnier than real life. New Job for Mr. Incredible

I had the idea to do a cross-over from Mr. Incredible to The Green Lantern for a while now. I finally settled down for a bit and did it. The pose was not the one that I origionaly had in mind but I think it works better this way. The weaving on the background was a bitch as was trying to get the emblem on his chest to take a shadow without loosing color information. so what do ya think?

I think I'm Turning Japanese

I am going to move to Japan simply to watch all of their television. The video below is from a Japanese TV show gaki no tsukai ya arahende which roughly translates as I'm Not An Errand Boy or This Is No Job For Kids. I don't understand why the translation differs so much but I don't really care either. What I care about is that Japanese people go on TV and make complete asses of themselves for the world to see. Please don't think that I am looking down on them. Americans have Jerry Springer and honestly I think Japan has slightly more dignity at the end of the day because they don't.

Tom Cruise is Insane

So Anonymous has declared war against The Church of Scientology because of the whole fiasco with the Tom Cruise indoctrination video (link to video)

After watching this video I have to agree with Justin Wyrsch when he wrote on his list Top 15 "celebrities" I would most like to punch in the face and the reasons why! (now with infuriating photos!),

“[Your] movies were much better before you ejected from the fighter plane of sanity.”

Tom was #1 on his list by the way. The problem is that Justin was right. Tom has had some awesome movies but not I am not allowed to like them as much. I just can't bring myself to tell idiots that it is alright to act like an idiot. When you watch the video though you get a sense that Tom is treading some very dangerous ground. He is making a persuasive speech but using little facts. He is turning up the charisma to its fullest. He is not afraid to put his ethics into someone else. He is a high ranking member in a (for lack of something else polite to call it) dangerous cult. now who does this remind us of?

Now in an extremely well written blog posted almost two years to the day at the time of posting Catez Stevens writes on Allthings2all,

What type of person is going to be able to digest that wonderful nugget of info and take it as doctrine? It takes a special mix of chemical imbalances, social disorders, and a pinch of mental retardation.

I can only hope that when one joins such a cult that you make new friends. Just stay away fom the punch at the group mixers, you never know who might spike it.

The Joker Claims Heath Ledger?

I've heard mixed statements about the death of Actor, Heath Ledger. Some look at his young age, his bright future in the movie industry, his 2 year old daughter left behind and feel sorrow. Others look at the possibility of drug abuse and overdose and take the less compassionate "he got what was coming to him" attitude. I myself, am upset over the loss. I've always been passionate about movies and have great respect for actors and actresses. I've enjoyed many of his movies and felt that he truly owned each and every character he portrayed...but now, at this sad time, I'm wondering if his final character actually owned him?

In July of 2008, millions of movie-watchers will scurry to theaters to see "The Dark Knight" in which Heath Ledger plays Batman's most worthy adversary, The Joker! Although Ledger saw himself through the entire filming of the movie, it is apparent to me (and perhaps naively so) that some of the Joker stayed with him.

Now, I'm not saying that he died because of the character but hear me out...
To follow are some of the questions and thoughts that have been running through my head and that have forced me to look a little bit differently at what kind of metamorphosis takes place when an actor or actress takes on a role.

When interviewed about playing the Joker, Ledger was quoted as saying his character is a "psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy." He spoke about having trouble sleeping during the shoot as he went on to say "Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night" "I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going." On more than one occasion he was heard saying that his character "disturbed" him. He reportedly began using some prescription and non-prescription sleep aids as well as some anti-anxiety medication. Both of which were found in his New York apartment in the bathroom and near the bed where his body was discovered. The bottles still had pills inside. One possible theory is overdose but it will be 10-14 days before any autopsy yields conclusive evidence about his true cause of death. At this time, it is being called "accidental" by those close to him.

Could it be that the madness that is synonymous with the Joker actually penetrated his very being? Could there have been some sort of mental break? I suppose we will never really know but there are a few factors that make me suspicious. First of all, it is reported by the London Daily Mail that Jack Nicholson uttered the words "I warned him" when given the news of Ledger's death. Warned him about what? The only real commonality the two share is the character. Did Nicholson experience some emotional trouble after his portrayal of the Joker? Does the character still haunt Nicholson years after he finished the role? All are questions that we may find answers to in coming days as I'm sure Nicholson will be the target of additional interviews.

Is there some curse that haunts this role? Perhaps it had something to do with Ledger's passion for the parts he would choose. After his first success in the film "10 Things I Hate About You", he had many similar "teen" roles thrown into his lap but despite the pleadings of his agent and his family, he tossed these rolls aside and stated that he wanted to carve his own path rather than having it carved for him. Could this dedication to each and every character have led to his undoing? Did he take the Joker in so deeply that he couldn't escape? Friends and family are of little help answering these questions. Since his separation from Michelle Williams (the mother of his child and the actress who played his wife in Brokeback Mountain), Ledger had become somewhat isolated and was seen on occasion with only his daughter.

I know this may seem to be a silly rant but really...stop and think! Think about spending months or years of your life, day in and day out dedicating yourself to "becoming" somebody else. Its like a lie. I know you've all done this. Have you ever told a little white lie and then you have to keep telling it, and telling it, until at one point you don't even remember it as a lie. I know there are a few things that I would have sworn on a stack of Bibles about but now looking back I realize they weren't true after all. Perhaps this same "effect" happens with actors and the parts they take on. I know I've definitely read interviews where an actor or actress states how they will "miss" a character or how a role will always be a part of them. Maybe it was just an unfortunate pairing of an actor who worked from so deep within and a character who embodied pure insanity and evil that brought Heath Ledger to this end.

Well, as with all things, time will tell. In the mean time I wish Ledger's family and especially his daughter peace.

So I owe this update to my complete obliviousness to the entertainment world around me. Indeed I just found out that they have made the sequel to Indiana Jones. I AM HAPPY! Although I was a huge Star Wars fan it was released slightly before I was born. I was a fan of it but not right from the beginning. But Indiana Jones is different. I went to the theaters and saw it with my dad in the movie theaters when I was 4 and have been hooked ever since. This installment of the franchise has me as excited as the recent release of the Transformers movie did. Believe me that is no small feat. I do have to say that I am a little sad to see that my friend Jack from Velesquious Studios did not get his wish. Years ago we were discussing the future of Indy and how we could see another installment of this series when he came up with what I consider to be the most brilliant idea ever. The thought was since Harrison Ford is friggin old that he needed an apprentice to take over for him. Now where would we find a sidekick for good old Indy? OH YEA! Short Round was attached to Indy at the hip. But who would be able to pull off a full grown Short Round? Who could take over the lead in an action film chock-full-0-stunts? Why Jackie Chan of course! Although he is a bit older than we would like and probably couldn't carry the franchise for long, I don't think that just one movie would have been too much to ask for.

It has been around the net for a bit but I must share it again. I don't think that I have ever watched something so completely and mind numbingly senseless. Senseless as it is I couldn't look away from the computer for the full 5:10 that it lasted. Pure genius as far as I am concerned.

Starscream Hero

A few months ago I was talking to a friend of mine when I noticed a picture of Starscream on his computer desktop. Being a Guitar Hero Wannabe-a-rockstar I decided that Starscream needed to rock out

To go along with the Guitar Hero theme I tried to do a Matrix style digital rain effect with the fretboards from Guitar Hero. This seemed to work out well as a wallpaper but the pattern does not scale worth a damn so I will have to revisit it when I get bored one day.
